DSAuk celebrate the launch of a new exhibition celebrating the history, achievements and legacy of dwarf sport in Birmingham.

Staff, trustees, ambassadors, supporters and Paralympians from Dwarf Sports Association UK (DSAuk) were delighted to attend the launch of A History of Dwarf Sport: Birmingham and Beyond, marking an important opportunity to recognise the people, stories and milestones that have shaped disability sport.

Our history is an important part of understanding how far dwarf sport and the wider para sport movement have come. Through determination, resilience and a shared commitment to inclusion, barriers have been challenged, perceptions changed and new opportunities created. The progress we celebrate today reflects the dedication of those who paved the way, whose achievements continue to inspire us to build a more inclusive future for generations to come.

The exhibition, A History of Dwarf Sport: Birmingham and Beyond, brings this important heritage to life, highlighting the stories and experiences that have contributed to the development of dwarf sport and the wider disability sport movement.

The project is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, delivered by the Museums Association.

DSAuk would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the National Paralympic Heritage Trust for co-creating our online exhibition, as well as Birmingham Central Library and everyone whose hard work and collaboration made the launch possible.

The free exhibition is open to visitors at  The Library of Birmingham until 27 October 2026, offering an opportunity to discover the history of dwarf sport and celebrate the people who have helped shape its future.

Visitors can also explore the exhibition through a series of digital resources, including a short introductory video, a full audio description of the gallery contents and an interactive virtual gallery

As we celebrate the people and achievements that have brought us to where we are today, we also recognise our responsibility to build on their legacy. By sharing our history, challenging outdated perceptions and creating more inclusive opportunities, we can help ensure that future generations have the chance to participate, compete and thrive in sport.
